South Lenoir Boys Win 14th Straight Conference Title; Girls Finish Third

DEEP RUN — che South Lenoir cross country program continued its run of dominance at the conference championships, with the varsity boys capturing their 14th consecutive team title and the girls finishing third overall.

Varsity Boys

South Lenoir secured the championship with a team score of 21 points, finishing well ahead of Heide Trask (45), Pender (64), East Duplin (122), and Clinton (132).
The Blue Devils were led by Wesley Vernon, who won the individual conference title with a time of 17:59.09 and was named Runner of the Year.

Teammates Yael Ramirez-Rico (3rd, 18:12), James Miller (4th, 18:16), Jack Rouse (6th, 18:28), and Jamison Gautier(7th, 18:45) all placed inside the top 10, earning All-Conference honors.
South Lenoir’s scoring five averaged 18:20, finishing with just a 46-second gap between their top and fifth runners.

Notable performances from other schools included Eduardo Mendoza of Pender finishing second (18:11) and Daniel Juarez of Heide Trask placing fifth (18:25).

Varsity Girls

The South Lenoir girls earned a third-place finish with 58 points, behind Heide Trask (43) and East Duplin (47).
Alexa Haro led the way for the Blue Devils, placing 5th overall (23:06). She was joined in the top 10 by Valeria Ramos Gutierrez (7th, 23:31) and Evelyn Garcia (8th, 23:44), all earning All-Conference recognition.

Sage Jones (23rd, 26:03), Valerie Valdivia (29th, 27:09), and Kadence Thigpen (30th, 27:16) rounded out the lineup for South Lenoir.

Top individual honors went to Alaina Delarosa of East Duplin, who won the meet in 22:13.67.

Middle School Boys 3000 Meter Run

In the middle school division, Woodington Middle School’s Cale Roberts took first place with a time of 11:44.70, followed by Owen Jones (13:04.88) and Kade Burkett (13:15.92).

Both South Lenoir teams advance to the regional championships next Friday at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds.
