Zavala’s Hat Trick Lifts Rams Over DH Conley in Statement Win
Snow Hill, NC – The Greene Central Rams (2-2-2) made a big statement Tuesday night with a 4-2 home victory over previously unbeaten D.H. Conley (3-1-2), and senior captain Miguel Zavala was at the heart of it all.
Zavala and Osorio Set the Tone Early
It didn’t take long for the Rams to establish control. Just ten minutes into the match, Zavala found the back of the net, cutting through the defense and finishing cleanly to give Greene Central the early 1-0 edge.
Not long after, fellow senior captain Josh Osorio stepped up to bury a penalty kick, doubling the lead and sending the Rams into halftime with a confident 2-0 cushion.
Rams Stay Aggressive, But Conley Fights Back
Four minutes into the second half, Zavala once again showed his class, this time freezing the keeper with a slick move and putting Greene Central up 3-0.
But the Vikings weren’t going quietly. With less than 20 minutes to play, Conley got on the board with a header goal, and they’d strike again 11 minutes later in almost identical fashion. A controversial foul that led to the header that brought the game to 3-2 and shifted the momentum into the Vikings hands.
Zavala Slams the Door
With nerves rising in the stands and five tense minutes remaining, it was the captain who stepped up one final time.
Off a beautiful through ball, Zavala worked his magic again, making the keeper hit the turf before sliding in his third goal of the night. It was the final blow the Rams needed to ice the game and close out a huge 4-2 win.
Coach Baird on the Bigger Picture
After the game, Greene Central head coach Jacob Baird reflected on the team’s challenging non-conference slate:
“I’m so proud of them. The record doesn’t look great, but we are playing some really good teams. We’d like to see more wins, but we’re happy with the results.”
It’s clear the Rams are learning and growing from every game—regardless of the outcome. Tuesday’s win proves the lessons are starting to pay off.
