Matt Howell of Jones Senior High School can possibly claim he is the only soccer coach in North Carolina to have never lost a game. Jones Senior, in the school's first-ever soccer game, defeated a Kinston High School team 9-0 tonight at Viking Stadium.
After a long four-day wait, North Lenoir finally hosted CB Aycock on Tuesday, only to suffer a crushing 56-6 defeat. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-3 for the season, while CB Aycock improves to 3-0.
In a gritty showdown that felt more like a boxing match than a football game, the Kinston High Vikings edged out the Ayden-Grifton High Chargers 26-20 on Friday night.

The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots took to the field on Friday night against the Northwest Halifax Vikings. Coming off a 47-0 loss to Harrells Christian Academy, it was evident from the start that Head Coach Matt Beamen had his team well-prepared for their non-conference showdown.

The win marks the third consecutive triumph for the Blue Devils, who have outscored their opponents 24-1 so far this season.

he South Lenoir Blue Devils opened their 2023 Football Season on the road against the North Johnston Panthers in Kenly, NC. The Blue Devils fumbled the ball three times during the sweltering matchup. Two of those fumbles were returned by the Panthers for touchdowns. The Panthers also added another TD on the ground in the first quarter. At halftime, the score was 22-0, which also became the final score.
"I know every week won't be the same thing, but it's great to get off to this start right here and establish that we can put points on the board, and do our jobs defensively," said Jay Wilson, GC head coach.
"We have the talent and the heart," Giesleman emphasized. "Now it's about putting it all together and executing on both sides of the ball."
"Right now we are young. Sometimes we see mistakes, some are young mistakes. They're gonna have to grow, and we're gonna grow as a team and a coaching staff," Sellers said. "We did see some bright spots tonight."
The Junior Varsity Kinston Football team faced South Central in their season opener, a game that Kinston Coach Corey Bryant described as a "tale of two halves."
Tennis enthusiasts and sports fans in Lenoir and surrounding counties are in for a treat as Kinston welcomes the 2023 USTA NC Tri-Level State Tennis Championships from September 22-24.
