Female Athlete of the Week: Diara Gooding, Kinston Volleyball
Kinston High’s Diara Gooding is the Neuse News Female Athlete of the Week after helping the Vikings snap a 43-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep over Tarboro. The sophomore libero/setter totaled 22 digs, eight assists, and eight aces as Kinston earned its first win since 2022 and first straight-set victory since 2019.

2025 Wayne Regional Fair Crowns New Cheer Champions
The spotlight was on spirit Wednesday night at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair Cheerleading Competition, where squads from across Eastern North Carolina took the stage and battled for top honors in front of a lively crowd.
In the middle school division, Woodington claimed first place with a sharp and energized routine, followed by Wayne School of Engineering in second and E.B. Frink in third.
