North Lenoir's volleyball team kicked off the season with a decisive victory over South West Edgecombe, winning in straight sets at home on Tuesday. The Hawks took the match 3-0, with set scores of 25-10, 25-21, and 25-6.

The tournament concluded with Perquimans High School volleyball team winning the championship match against Farmville Central in a thrilling third set.
In a strong start to the season, the local soccer team secured victory in the 2023 Cougar Classic, defeating Wake Christian 5-3 and High Point Christian Academy 5-1.
"Girls in Kinston that play basketball don't get as many chances as boys and we get overlooked. I want to be the person that can give girls that opportunity," Kelly said.
The event, free to all ages, is scheduled for August 24 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Kinston High School.
